If practice makes perfect, the Italian winemakers behind Chianti Classico must find themselves with a lot of time on their hands. Since Etruscans times vines are cultivated in Tuscany and the wineries in Chianti have been making the eponymous wine since the 14th century, although the character and composition of the blend have changed significantly since then. Wine educator Iain Philip will talk about what distinguishes the 8 Chianti Classico municipalities from each other, as well as the differences between Chianti Classico, Riserva, and Gran Selezione (a new category introduced in 2014 that requires all grapes to come from a producer's own estate, and all wines to be approved by a special tasting committee). Guests will taste a range of Chianti Classico wines that illustrate regional differences.
